The following is the complete and official text of the “Mississippi Home Care Client’s Bill of Rights,” as provided by the Mississippi State Department of Health.   • Be treated with dignity and respect.

  • Receive services that are furnished in a way that conserves your dignity and is respectful of your property and person.

  • Be free from mental and physical abuse, neglect, and exploitation.

  • Confidentiality of your medical and financial records and your personal affairs.

  • Be informed, both orally and in writing, of any changes in the charges or items for which you are liable to pay, as soon as reasonably possible, but no later than 30 days from the date the agency becomes aware of a change.

  • Be involved in the planning of your care and treatment.

  • Be informed in advance of any changes in your care and treatment.

As a client of a home care agency in Mississippi, you have the right to:

  • Refuse care and treatment.

  • Be informed, both orally and in writing, of the agency’s policies for client grievances.

  • Voices grievances and suggest changes in services or staff without fear of discrimination or reprisal.

  • Be informed, both orally and in writing, of the telephone number and hours of operation of the state’s home health hotline which receives questions and complaints about home care agencies.


If you have a complaint against a home care agency and feel your rights have been violated, you have the right to contact the Mississippi State Department of Health.
